One thing that I liked with ArcGIS Online was how many options there were for ways to display data. I had learned this tool a little bit for my class at one point, but I forgot just how many options there are. I would not even think to display data in many of the ways possible through ArcGIS Online. The thing that I found most interesting was the bit about accessibility with maps, specifically color contrast in a context where colors might be expected to be used to convey meaning. I feel like I must encounter a fair amount of inaccessible data visualization maps just due to how common the use of color is in them. Unfortunately, and though I consulted another Vivero fellow, I could not figure out how to duplicate a layer or how to check my map with WebAIM’s Contrast Checker, and when I tried other sites, they did not show the layer I had made. Trying to figure those out was frustrating and I hope to eventually understand what to do. ArcGIS Online seems pretty cool and I would be interested to try it out with visualizing data that I care about more than the sample csv, because I can tell it has a lot of potential for providing immediate apprehension of data.
