My professional development project for October was learning how to make Pivot Charts in Microsoft Excel. I really enjoyed this and felt super productive the whole time I was working because of how useful the skills I was developing are, and because of how nice it felt to have different techniques click. As it turned out, most of learning how to make Pivot Charts is actually learning to make Pivot Tables. I looked at LinkedIn Learning tutorials for this project, and actually ended up looking at a tutorial dedicated exclusively to Pivot Tables, which was what most of my work was. I also learned from a tutorial that had a section about Pivot Charts, though one of the things it said was that the best way to learn about many of the parts of Pivot Charts are just to experiment yourself, which I did. I completed different Excel Sheets the initial tutorial provided downloads of by listening to the presenter, and made my Pivot Charts in the last sheet. Unfortunately, most of the charts I made are not visible because I turned them into other charts without thinking. I honestly think that in spite of their bare bones nature, Excel visualizations could be appropriate for some of the visualizations I will be working on in my main project.
